Chamartin Railway Station is the second most important station in Madrid. Located in the central district of Chamartin, this station centralizes all communications from the north of the country to Madrid. Here, the high speed trains (AVE) from Segovia and Valladolid make its final stop and the AVE from Barcelona stops before end the ride in Atocha Railway Station.
The station was created in 1933 but was not formally built until 1967. Though it has undergone major internal reforms, externally the railway station shows a typical functionalist style traditional used by the architects of the 60’s in Spain.

Getting There
The station is located in the Chamartin district in the northern side of Madrid. It is well connected by bus, metro, taxi and city train lines. Chamartin is not only a railway station, but also a city bus and metro station. Lines 1 and 10 of Metro Madrid are connected with the station. Besides those two metro lines, the station is connected by seven city-train lines (C-1, C-2, C-3, C-4, C-7, C-8 or C-10), called Cercanías Renfe.There are several city buses (5, 80, L10, 152A, 154, 171 and 815) have a stop outside the station. Also, it is a taxi rank outside the station.
Chamartin High-Speed Routes
The high-speed train line Madrid-Segovia-Valladolid, has its only stop in Madrid Chamartin station. This line opened in 2007 and in the future will be connected with the other high-speed train lines being built to connect the north part (Olmedo-Zamora-Galicia, Palencia-León-Asturias and Venta de Baños-Burgo -Vitoria) with the capital of Spain.
Train to Toledo and Segovia
There is a high-speed train connecting Segovia and Madrid in 28 minutes. There are three different train services serving this high-speed line called AVANT, ALVIA and AVE with different prices and different timings. Tickets ca be buy in advance online or at the station at least 10 minutes before the departing time. The price is are from 8 to 15 euros. The high-speed line to Toledo departs and arrives only by the Atocha Railway Station.
Madrid Barajas Airport to Chamartin Train Station
Madrid Barajas Airport is located 7.5 miles away from Chamartin Station. The airport (T-4) and the station are connect by a direct city train lines (Line C-1). Those passenger arriving to any other terminal airport, can take the Metro Madrid Line 8 to Nuevos Ministerios and then take the city-train or subway Line 10 to Chamartin.
